In an effort to inject growth momentum in its IT and engineering businesses, the $12.8 billion conglomerate Larsen and Toubro, today announced the restructuring of these two units.

To start with, the company announced the appointment of Mukesh Aghi and Vivek Chopra to head its IT services business called L&T Infotech. Aghi was heading the India operations of France-based Steria Group, and Chopra was group president of CSC, and heading its India operations. US-based CSC is a $15.87 billion IT services and consulting business.

Under the restructuring plan, L&T Infotech will have a new structure. The company has been reorganized around two business clusters, “Industrial” & “Services”. Aghi will head the ‘Services’ cluster that will include banking, financial services, insurance and areas like travel & logistics, media & entertainment and healthcare. This group will house horizontals of testing, mobility, infrastructure management system and business intelligence / data warehouse.

Chopra will head the 'Industrials’ cluster, which will leverage the company’s existing strengths and heritage to address manufacturing plants, establishments including wholesale, retail sale of products and establishments dealing with energy and utilities.  This group will house horizontals of SAP, enterprise integration, Oracle as well as manufacturing execution systems.

Moreover, the current L&T Integrated Engineering Services (IES) will be rebranded as L&T Technology Services. This business will continue to be headed by Keshab Panda. The IES unit reported revenue of Rs 295 crore for the first quarter of FY13, registering a growth of 69 per cent year-over-year.

As an additional role, Panda will also join the L&T Infotech Board along with Aghi and Chopra to maximise synergies. L&T believes this restructure will help the company in growing these businesses
