Company to expand Kutch facility along with other units.

With order-books swelling, Kolkata-based mosquito repellent coil maker Manaksia Limited is looking to expand the manufacturing capacity by next year.

Currently, the multi-division company manufactures around 3,000 million coils per annum across its units in Kutch in Gujarat, Guwahati, Bhopal, Hyderabad and Bankura in West Bengal.

Manaksia manufactures mosquito coils for Reckitt Benckiser (India) Ltd for its 'Mortein' brand, Jyothy Laboratories Limited's 'Maxo' brand, Eveready Industries' 'Eveready Poweron' brand, Dabur India Limited's 'Odomos' brand and Anmol Industries Limited's 'Target' brand.

"We are in talks with a number of FMCG companies to take up their mosquito coil manufacturing work and this might require some capacity expansion," said BK Agrawal, managing director, Manaksia Limited, refusing to divulge details of the expansion.

Of the mosquito coil manufacturing units, the Kutch unit which manufactures around 320 million coils is expected to see major expansion.

"The Kutch manufacturing plant is strategic for us because of its proximity to port. We also manufacture colour coated steel and aluminium sheets and metal crown caps at the unit," said Kalyan Lahiri, vice-president - Corporate Affairs, Manaksia Ltd.

However, even with the guar gum prices dipping due to low export demand, the company's raw material sourcing hasn't been affected.

"We mainly earn our contract margins from the outsourcing companies and any rise and fall in raw material prices is adjusted by them," said Agarwal.

Of its total turnover of Rs 750 crore, mosquito coils form around seven per cent, while metal products like galvanised steel coils and ingots, aluminium coils and ingots and colour coated steel and aluminium form 82 per cent.

Apart from manufacturing units in India, the company runs steel, aluminium and other metal manufacturing units in Nigeria and Ghana through its subsidiaries.

Manaksia is also engaged into packaging by manufacturing metal crowns and ROPP caps for Coca-Cola and some of the major beer manufacturers.
