MindTree Consulting, a software and consulting services firm, is set to acquire an ERP (enterprise resource planning) implementation company in New Delhi for around Rs 10 crore.

Sources close to the deal said that company is stepping up its presence in the ERP sector and acquiring an established company with manpower is one of the ways to expand the practice.

Krishnakumar Natarajan, president and chief executive officer, IT consulting, MindTree Consulting, said: "We do have a lot of focus on SAP practice due to ongoing demand from our customers and the practice has grown in strength over the last several months. However, we cannot comment on speculative reports like acquisition and hence will not be in a position to comment on the same."

MphasiS Software, too, had done a similar deal when it acquired an ERP division of MIRC Electronics.

The company in addition to this acquisition is learnt to have adopted a strategy of acquiring a series of boutique firms which has expertise in various verticals.

With the resurgence in spending on IT services from corporations across the globe and the prospect of increase in workflow to companies offering software outsourcing services, MindTree is also expanding its manpower rapidly.

MindTree currently has 1,100 professionals and this is expected to go up to 6,000 over the next three to five years.

The consulting firm, started by Ashok Soota, former Wipro honcho, is building an expansive campus on the outskirts of Bangalore city which will have three buildings and having a seating capacity for 5,000 software developers.
