Nalco posts highest-ever aluminium production in FY11

The National Aluminium Company (Nalco) achieved its highest-ever cast metal production of 443,597 tonne in 2010-11, against a previous best of 431,488 tonne in 2009-10.

Nalco's alumina refinery achieved 98.8% capacity utilisation by producing 15.56 lakh tonne of alumina hydrate, while its bauxite mines produced 48.24 lakh tonne, with a capacity utilisation of 100.5%, in 2010-11.

Its captive power plant also recorded the highest-ever net power generation of 6,608 million units during 2010-11, against the previous best of 6,293 million units in 2009-10, a company statement said today.

On the sales front too, Nalco achieved its highest-ever metal sales of 438,952 tonnes, against a previous best of 435,979 tonne in 2009-10, it said.

The company recorded its highest-ever domestic metal sales of 340,752 tonne in 2010-11, surpassing 289,032 tonne in the previous fiscal.

Nalco also achieved the record sale of 20,022 tonne of rolled products in the domestic market in 2010-11, against the previous best of 14,419 tonne in 2009-10.

This year the company has also added aluminium t-ingots to its product range, a first in the Indian aluminium industry, Nalco sources said.

Nalco had resumed billet exports in 2009-10, after a gap of a decade, and in 2010-11, the company exported 4614 tonne of billets.

The company also widened its international customer base during 2010-11 by adding new overseas clients.
