Nissan Motor India Private Limited has reported a growth of 155.3 per cent in sales for the month of June, 2012, to 4,167 units, as compared to 1,632 units during the same period last year.

The growth was mainly driven by the company’s made-in-India models – mid-size sedan Nissan Sunny and compact premium hatchback Nissan Micra.

These two models together contributed 4,157 units to the total sales, the company said in a statement. Its sports utility vehicle (SUV) Nissan X-Trail, sedan Nissan Teana and sports car Nissan 370z accounted for the rest of the business for the month of June.

Ishida Takayuki, managing director of Nissan India, said that though the Indian economy and the local automobile market had been going through some difficulty in the recent times, the company had witnessed encouraging sales.

“This month’s growth can also be attributed to the affordable and innovative consumer offering of low EMIs and petrol at pre-hike prices,” said Nitish Tipnis, director (marketing and sales), Hover Automotive India (HAI), Nissan’s sales and marketing partner in India.

Evalia, Nissan’s urban utility vehicle, would be available for customers before the upcoming Diwali season and the vehicle would go into production at the company’s Chennai plant later this year.
