Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), the market leader in the sports utility vehicle and tractor segments, on Monday announced the elevation of Pawan Goenka to the post of executive director. Goenka, president of the automotive and farm equipment sectors at the Mumbai-based M&M, will now be executive director and president (automotive and farm equipment sectors).

Group Chairman Anand Mahindra said, “Pawan has played an integral role in transforming the group’s automotive product development capabilities and provided growth and strategic directions to both automotive and tractor businesses. I am confident he will add tremendous value to the board by providing fresh insights and invaluable guidance on key issues facing the company.”

Goenka joined M&M in 1993 as general manager (research and development). In 2001, he became executive vice-president (product development) and was promoted to the post of chief operating officer (automotive sector) in 2003. In 2005, he was appointed president (automotive sector) and in 2010, he became president (automotive and farm equipment sectors), following the retirement of Anjani Kumar Choudhari, former head of the company’s tractor business.

The company attributes to him the development of products such as the Scorpio.

Goenka was made chairman of Korean subsidiary SsangYong Motor Company soon after its takeover by M&M.
