PCP Technology Pvt Ltd has come up with a 'rust check' technology to provide automotive after-market products for the Indian automotive industry.

PCP Technology is a joint venture of ' Paracoat', which provides noise, vibration and heat insulation solutions, and Canada based Dominion Sure Seal , an automotive aftermarket product company.

PCP was planning to set up at least 200 rust check franchisees in the country by 2005 reaching up to 1000 by 2007.

An average investment would be around Rs 5 lakhs for each franchise.

Its rust check treatment would be an internally done treatment using materials that could get into any seam or crevice within 48 hours of application.

According to a study by Inter-Industry Conference on Autobody Repair, the apex automotive body of North America, a car could lose 15 per cent strength on an average due to corrosion.

The PCP treatment could reduce this to 3.5 per cent through reduction in crevice corrosion, extending a car's life span.

This treatment used penetrants and lubricants and was applicable to in locks, hinges, grills, inside electrical outlets, plumbing fittings, fastenings and other domestic appliances.

A study by India's Central Electrochemical Research Institute and the National Corrosion Council of India had pegged the annual loss directly caused by corrosion in the industrial, chemical and the natural resources sector at Rs 24,000 crore.
