The service is available at four locations, including Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT), Surya Nagar, Gopabandhu Chowk and Governor House Road, covering popular areas such as Reliance Fresh Retail outlet, Gopabandhu market complex and ICICI Bank.
As part of the Odisha government’s initiative to convert Bhubaneswar into a ‘smart city’, visitors to these locations will be able to experience high speed wireless connectivity on hand-held devices (smartphones/tablets) through the network. Initially, the service will be offered free of cost subject to fair usage for individual customers till the time of the commercial launch.
A spokesperson of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd said, “High-speed data connectivity is one of the foundations on which future prosperity of cities and nations will be built. We are proud to be associated with the government’s smart city initiative. By deploying Jionet’ Wi-Fi services at select locations in Bhubaneswar, we want people to sample the digital ecosystem we are building consisting of high speed data networks, specially designed apps and rich content and understand how it can enrich their lives.”
A total of 27 access points have been installed across locations, and maximum 1,000 concurrent users can connect to the service at a time. The users’ feedback on the overall experience and network will be used to improve the services further. Once 4G LTE service commences, Wi-Fi and LTE networks will operate seamlessly with each other.
