V S Krishnan, president (corporate planning and strategy), RPG group, has decided to move out of the group fold.

Confirming the development, senior RPG group sources said: "Krishnan has decided to move out of the group to pursue other interests. He will remain with the company till April 30 next year."

Krishnan is being succeeded by 40-year-old Murali Ramachandran, who comes over from KPMG Peat Marwick.

Ramachandran is expected to join the company next week and formally take over from Krishnan in January.

He, however, will be designated president, business strategy and information technology. Recently, the group chief financial officer (CFO) Hari Mundra had put in his papers. The company had brought in Nicholas Piramal CFO Mahesh Gupta to fill the vacancy.

Meanwhile, the RPG group has decided to impart a new focus to group strategic planning function. This is now being renamed as business strategy improvement and information technology.

A senior RPG group official said, "The ambit of the strategy planning function is being extended. The new focus will be to monitor the performance of group companies, bring about process improvement and give a thrust to infotech initiatives. The change in the name of the strategy planning group will reflect the new thrust."

Ramachandran has been executive director and partner at consultancy firm KPMG for around two years.
