RSP posts best ever April-May output

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of the maharatna company, Steel Authority of India Ltd (Sail), has registered its best ever April-May performance as well as the best performance for the month of May since inception in key areas.

In the April-May period of this fiscal, the steel plant produced 394,000 tonne of hot metal, 369,000 tonne of crude steel and 346,000 tonne of saleable steel, thereby registering growth of 2.3 per cent, 2.1 per cent and 2.51 per cent respectively over the corresponding period of last fiscal.

In May 2013, the steel plant produced 201,000 tonne of hot metal by utilizing 118.3 per cent of capacity, 190,000 tonne of crude steel by using 118.1 per cent of capacity and 185,000 tonne of saleable steel using 130.4 per cent of capacity.

At 6.710 giga calorie per tonne of crude steel, the specific energy consumption of RSP was also its best ever since inception.

The new sinter unit-3 set up as a part of the massive modernization and expansion plan of the steel plant, produced 79,377 tonnes of sinter, while oven pushing from the new coke oven battery-6 during the trial run stood at an average of 43 pushings per day.
