SAIL Q2 production up 7%

During September, hot metal production increased 6% while crude steel production grew 4%

Public sector steel major Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has posted a seven% growth in hot metal production during the second quarter ended September this year.

The company produced 3.6 Million Tonne (MT) hot metal during the last quarter as compared to 3.3 MT produced during the same quarter last year. Crude steel production also increased 5% to 3.39 MT during the three month period.

During September, hot metal production increased 6% while crude steel production grew 4%, according to a statement issued by the company.     

For the half year ended September, the company’s crude steel production was up 3% at the back of improved techno-economic parameters, including blast furnace productivity and specific energy consumption.

As part of an ambitious modernization and expansion plan, the company intends to increase its steel making capacity from the current 14 Million Tonne (MT) to 23 MT through investment of Rs 70,000 crore by 2013.
