Solution to REL-Tata Power row in sight

The Reliance Energy Limited (REL) and Tata Power Company's (TPC) power projects in Maharashtra are being delayed as both companies are locked in a feud over land. They will proceed with their projects as Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh is set to intervene in the matter.
IT may be recalled that Business Standard had reported about TPC and REL being locked in a battle over 1,300 acres of land at Shahpur where both the power giants want to set up their 1,600 MW and 4,000 MW plants respectively in its issue of January 7th.
The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) had notified the land for TPC under MIDC Act. REL, whose proposal for acquiring land was accepted by the state government in-principal prior to that of TPC, found itself in an unenviable position of having to sort out the issue of who gets the land before it could start working on commissioning of plant.
Maharashtra Energy Minister Dileep Walse-Patil admitted to goofing up on the state government's part. He said, "This happened because two companies approached the state government's two different arms for land acquisition under different acts."
He further said, "Both the companies were asked to send us their views on the issue, which we have received and soon the chief minister will call a meeting of all the parties concerned and sort out the issue".
We want an early solution to the issue as we wish that both companies' projects should get commissioned on time, he added.
To a question on how the state government would tackle environmental issues that arose from the two coal-based projects coming up at one site Walse-Patil said: "That will be assessed by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board."
When contacted, spokespersons of both the companies refused to make any comment on Walse-Patil's announcement. However, TPC maintained that it has no dispute with REL over land.
