Hit by the economy slowdown, consumer electronics major Sony India is expecting a lower growth rate in the next financial year.

At a press conference in Kolkata, Sunil Nayyar, head-sales, Sony India, said, that during 2008-09, the company expects a growth of 20-25 per cent higher over 2007-08. Last fiscal, it clocked a revenue of Rs 3,000 crore.

“Next fiscal, growth is likely to be 15-20 per cent or lower,” Nayyar said. “We would focus on the LCD and digital camera segments this fiscal to push sales. Currently these categories make up 20-30 per cent of sales,” Nayyar said.

Currently, the digital still camera market size would increase by 20 per cent, from 1 million units to 1.2 million units.

For Sony, cyber-shot camera’s share is estimated to increase to 42 per cent in the FY 2009, up from the current 37 per cent in the FY2008.

Sony expects to sell 500,000 camera units, up from 370,000 units sold in FY2008.
