The government has sought speedy changes in the rules relating to packaged drinking/mineral water standards.
Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Sharad Yadav has written to the Ministry of Health in this regard.
Yadav said the Prevention of Food Adulteration rules should be amended quickly to enable the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) implement new norms.
BIS had earlier issued amendments in order to align Indian standards with European Union norms. The committee had listed 13 items of pesticides for testing and analysis and said the tests should be carried out by an accredited laboratory using internationally established test methods meeting the prescribed levels of residue limit.
