Sterlite Industries posted a net profit after tax at Rs 913.52 crore for the third quarter ended December, 2011, down 17% from Rs 1,101 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, according to a release filed with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
Total income during the quarter increased by 24% to Rs 10,921 crore from Rs 8810 crore in the same quarter the previous year.
Consequent to acquisition of zinc business at Namibia, South Africa and Ireland in the second half of the FY10-11, the results for the quarter and nine months ended December 31, 2011 were not strictly comparable with corresponding previous periods, the release said.
At 1530 hours, the shares of the company were trading down 6.06% at Rs 107 per share on the BSE.
