Vedanta Group firm Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd has posted a decrease of 17 per cent in net profit at Rs 913 crore for the quarter ended December 31, as against Rs 1,101 crore during the same period last year. The total income stood at Rs 10,303.67 crore during the third quarter of the current financial year, as against Rs 8,332 crore during a year ago period, an increase of 23.6 per cent.
However, the company, in its result announcement, said, "Consequent to acquisition of zinc business at Namibia, South Africa and Ireland in the second half of FY11, the results for the quarter and nine months ended December 31 are not strictly comparable with corresponding previous periods."
