Welcoming the National Green Tribunal order allowing the company to commence operation at the plant, Sterlite said, "We will work closely with the regulatory authorities and expect to resume production in approximately one week."
A bench headed by tribunal Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar today allowed the company to commence operation of its copper plant in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu and made it clear that the unit will start operating in the presence of a committee set up by the tribunal in a week's time.
The copper smelter facility in the state was closed as per orders from Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board which had carried a preliminary inspection of the plant on March 23 following public complaints of gas emission.
Shares of the company closed at Rs 93.55 apiece on the BSE, up 2.58% from the previous close.
