During the changeover, consumers can take power from Tata Power on the net work of their current service provider. In case of switchover, they can become a direct consumer of Tata Power on their own network.
The company added 77,763 consumers from April 1 to December 31, 2013, with 75,125 consumers being low-end (0-300 units).
Tata Power said mechanisms like open access and multiple/parallel licensing in distribution allow consumers avenues to exercise choice. Currently, Tata Power has a consumer base of 450,000 in the city.
Tata Power said it was undertaking a steady network expansion within the city, with a focus on 11 clusters after receiving directions from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission on August 22, 2012. The company added 300 kms of cable network till December 2013.
In addition, the company added two additional distribution sub-stations (DSS) and 36 Consumer Sub Stations (CSS), totaling the DSS to 23 DSS and 619 CSS.
S Padmanabhan, Executive Director, Operations in Tata Power said, “We are committed to reducing tariffs for our consumers and potential consumers through on-going efforts to build our own network. We will continue to work towards supplying our customers with efficient, affordable, 24X7 uninterrupted power.
