Tata Consultancy Services, one of India’s largest IT firms, has signed a deal with the ministry of external affairs for setting up and managing a project through which issue of passports will be quickened. The project is worth Rs 1,000 crore, the company said in a statement to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
The ministry expects that under the scheme, called Passport Seva Project, new passports will be completed in three working days, while passports under the tatkal service will be dispatched on the same day.
The project will be on a buy-own-operate-transfer basis with pilot operations expected to start within 19 months, TCS said in the statement.
