TNHB to build over 2,000 housing units

Tamil Nadu Housing Board plans to construct 723 flats at Chennai, 16 at Salem, 566 houses at Kancheepuram, Vilupuram, Erode, Kottagoundampatti in Salem district, Kalapatti in Coimbatore district, Jettihally in Dharmapuri and Tenkasi in Tirunelveli.

It would also develop 1,122 plots at Alappakam in Kancheepuram district, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Palayampatti in Virudhunagar district, Andipatti in Theni district, Thoppur in Madurai district and Ramanathapuram. The total cost of developing the above 2,427 housing units is around Rs 340 crore.

The board said it would demolish 119 of its rental quarters constructed in 1959 in CIT Nagar, Nandanam, Chennai which are in dilapidated condition and construct 474 flats at a cost of Rs 77.70 crore (excluding the value of the land) and would construct 100 new houses in Thanjavur at a cost of Rs 20.85 crore.

Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority will develop a large container truck parking yard at Manjambakkam in an extent of 12 acres, at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore, to accommodate 400 container trucks at a time and with the projected turnover of 1,000 truck per day.

CMDA would also develop a satellite intercity bus terminus at Velachery on a site of 12 acres and a bus terminus complex at Madhavaram on eight acres.
