GD Foods Mfg India Pvt Ltd, makers of the Tops brand of food products, plans to set up a Rs 6 crore plant at Neemrana in Rajasthan to manufacture pickles, sauces and jams.
 
The company has five production units in Delhi.
 
The plant, to be set up on 10 acres of land, is expected to become operational by 2006. "The work on the project has been started," said Nitin Seth, director of the company.
 
"We hope to break even in next two years of the start of the project," Seth said.
 
The company, which started manufacturing and marketing of noodles in 1984 in New Delhi, expects to clock a turnover of Rs 40 crore in 2004-05.
 
Seth said the company was hoping to achieve a turnover of Rs 100 crore by 2006-07.
 
He said the company started its operations in Rajasthan in 2001-02 and had established its products in the state. The company has 45 wholesale and several small distributors in the state.
 
According to Seth, Tops products like jams, pickles, tomato ketchup, chilly sauce, soya sauce, custard and jellies have become a household name. "The Tops brand has always been in the top three in its product categories in the market," he said.
 
The company is planning to enter the Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala markets soon.
 
Tops products are also being exported to Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Germany, Can-ada and the UK. Now the company plans to enter the US market in a big way.
