In order to meet the requirement of electricity consumers in the state during the summer season, the two state electricity departments — Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) and the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) purchased 204348.4 lakh units of electricity from different sources during the months of April to October this year at cheaper rates as compared to the corresponding months of last year. The distribution companies spent about Rs 5934.2 crore for the purpose. The electricity has been purchased at an average cost of Rs 2.9 per unit this year.
UHBVN Managing Director Arun Kumar divulging details said the UHBVN and the DHBVN had purchased 211403.1 lakh units of electricity at a cost of Rs 6998 crore during April to October, 2009. The average cost of each unit of electricity was Rs 3.3. Thus, the distribution companies had spent about Rs 1,040 crore less as compared to the corresponding period in 2009.
He said that the two departments made maximum possible banking arrangements under which the electricity was procured from the states of Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
On an average the electricity was supplied for more than 20 hours daily to the industries during April to October this year as compared to 17.17 hours daily during the corresponding months last year.
