Wipro Infotech is planning to launch business process outsourcing (BPO) services in India with a focus on transaction processing.

“The initiatives the government is taking will throw up opportunities in transformational projects. We intend to build the BPO practice for India, but we want to focus on transaction processing,” said Soumitro Ghosh, chief executive of Wipro Infotech.

Wipro’s BPO service is for global markets and it has little presence in India. “Today there is talk of digital initiatives and one needs to re-imagine the process which opens up opportunities for transaction processing,” Ghosh added.

Last year Wipro Infotech was restructured to bring focus to the India and Middle East business that accounts for 10 per cent of Wipro’s overall information technology services revenue.

Ghosh said Wipro Infotech had posted over 5 per cent sequential growth in the past five quarters, barring one. Wipro Infotech has won six large deals above Rs 100 crore each in the last six months .

The company has set up micro verticals and service lines with revenue targets. The government vertical is split into central government, state government, defence, railways and education. Wipro Infotech is also setting up two separate business teams for Digital India and smart cities.

“We have created 16 service lines and 21 verticals with targets for each. This has given us control over growth,” Ghosh said.
