Wipro to set up unit for Japanese firm

Wipro Technologies has announced its decision to set up the Omron Solutions and Innovation Centre (OSIC) for Japan-based Omron Corporation. Omron Corporation is one of the world's leading industrial automation and electronic components company.
 
OSIC will provide engineering and design services primarily in the embedded domain at Wipro's development centers in Bangalore and Pune. The centre will have a major focus on process efficiencies and innovation in emerging technology areas of automotive electronics and industrial automation.
 
"Wipro's excellent track record and their willingness to support us through collaborative efforts will help us improve our overall software maturity standards. Their commitment to quality as well as their expertise in embedded technology will be a valuable asset to Omron and will further compliment our R&D efforts," Tsukasa Yamashita, senior general manager, research and development headquarters, Omron Corporation, said.
 
Wipro and Omron have been working together for over two years in the embedded domain. Wipro has provided services in reverse engineering, optimisation, development and testing for automotive, industrial automation, VLSI & R&D areas.
 
"Increasing sophistication and advancement in technology has made automation to be integrated from the 'sensor to the boardroom'. Our strong foundation in embedded and industrial automation, coupled with our quality processes would help Omron develop innovative products with faster time to market," Masaki Nagao, chief executive "� Japan and China operations, Wipro Technologies, said.
 
Headquartered in Kyoto, Japan, Omron Corporation has over 23,000 employees in over 35 countries. They work on a variety of fields including industrial automation, electronic components, social systems (ticket gate machines, ticket vending machines and traffic control) and healthcare.
