Zenith Computers, India's 2nd largest personal computer vendor, is now taking the export route.
The company, which sells around a lakh personal computers in the country every year, has just forayed into the international market, exporting its products to Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and South Africa.
It is planning to beef up its presence in the Middle East and Scandinavia and is talking to local players in these countries for marketing their products.
The company expects exports to account for 10-20 per cent of its total revenue in the next fiscal. Though the company is exporting only very small volumes currently, it sees the Middle East as a huge potential market which could account for nearly 10 per cent of the total revenue in the next fiscal.
"We are talking to some of the local players in Iran and Scandanavian countries which are relatively untouched by the larger PC vendors. We have also been doing good volumes in Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Bahrain our focus area," said Devita Saraf, director of Zenith Computers.
2003 has been a year of studying the markets and 2004 will mark the beginning of our export thrust."
The company's target market varies from country to country. In the Middle East the company is eyeing the home PC market whereas in Bangladesh and Scandinavia it is looking at the corporate market.
Besides exports, laptops are another focus area for Zenith in the next fiscal. The company launched its wi-fi range of laptops recently and is hoping to sell 2000-3000 units of the same by December 2004. Zenith is also planning to relaunch its Topper range of laptops aimed at students next summer.
The topper range which was launched in September and has been sold out now.
