Love him or hate him but one can't actually ignore author Chetan Bhagat. The 'Two States' author has emerged as India's best-selling author this year, according to a new report by Flipkart. This is based on the reading habits of people who have bought books from the online retailer.

Despite being the most popular author, Bhagat's Half Girlfriend was pipped by Amish Tripathi's 'Scion of Ikshvaku' to be the top-selling work of fiction, according to the FlipTrends report.

Indian authors were widely preferred by readers as all five best-selling books of 2015 were by them. Surprisingly, Salman Rushdie's Two Years, Eight Months and Twenty Eight Nights, usually regarded as a 'heavier read', has featured in the top-five best selling fiction category.

The Great Indian Diet penned by Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra has emerged as the top-selling non-fiction, closely followed by her peer Twinkle Khanna's Mrs. Funnybones.

The report analyzed consumer buying preferences on Flipkart between January and December 2015 based on data from 50 million registered customers.

Most orders in the reading section was from Bengaluru, followed by Delhi NCR and Kolkata.
