Congress more united in Tripura with exodus of indisciplined leaders: Bhupen Bora

He accepted that there was infighting in the Congress but said it is a temporary setback for the party in the state

On the continuing exodus from Congress, the party's all India secretary Bhupen Bora who was here for crisis management said that party was aware at least a year back of a rebellious group of MLAs and leaders trying to contact with the BJP but were refused and now joined the TMC.

Bora accepting that there was infighting in the Congress said it is a temporary setback for the party in the state but now the party will be more united as infighting will stop with moving away of the indisciplined leaders.

"We were prepared; we came to know since one year back that Sudip Roy Barman doesn't want to work in Congress. He wanted to lead the Congress according to his own style which is not acceptable to the party workers. So, I think people are more happy that Congress in Tripura are united now and there will be no infighting. So, because of that all the Congress leaders and workers will work unitedly for more strengthening of the Congress party in Tripura," he added.

Sighting example of Congress leaders like Gegon Apang and PA Sangma who had left the Congress and joined other party but could not continue for long, Bora said that Congress party is not dependent on any single person and hence the party will able to regain its strength by the next assembly election.

AICC had deputed party's all India secretary Bhupen Bora to cope with the crisis. Bora arrived here on Tuesday and held discussion with party leaders on the future strategy of Congress in Tripura and assured that it depends on the willingness of the state leaders with consent of AICC that the party will go for alliance with any political party.

Trinamool leader Mukul Roy said at a public meeting here that his party would fight tooth and nail to dislodge the Left Front government in Tripura and take power in the state after the 2018 assembly polls.

Later, a Trinamool delegation led by Roy and Sudip Roy Barman met Governor Tathagata Roy and told him about "deteriorating law and order" in the state.
