External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Tuesday acknowledged that dangerous elements of cyber space are injecting ideas that are unwholesome to any society, or using it for trafficking of children and women, but said the structure of governance of cyber space needs to comply with the expectations of civil society.
"We know what the irksome and the dangerous elements of cyber space are. There are some people who very legitimately and very rightly mentioned the concern about how cyber space is used for trafficking of children and women, cyber space is used for unwholesome ideas that would influence tender minds. This is a very serious concern," he said while addressing media after the conclusion of the two-day ASEM meet here today.
He also said that democratization and governance of cyber space requires a considerable thought into this issue.
"There are people who are concerned more specifically about security, espionage using cyber space to inject ideas that are unwholesome to any society,' he said.
"But issues how we democratize the cyber space and structures of governance are compatible with expectations of civil societies, and democratic institutions in our respective country, requires considerable thought to go into," he added.
