Diwali emerged as the most talked about topic from India on Facebook in 2016, the social networking giant revealed in its "Year in Review" top 10 list on Thursday.

Indians' all-consuming obsession cricket was the second most talked about topic on the social media site.

While the September 18 Uri attacks and the succeeding surgical strikes on September 29 by the Indian Army against Pakistan were placed at the third spot, a movie on the life of Indian Cricket Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni claimed the fourth spot.

DJ Hardwell's India tour took the fifth position on the list, followed by Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra and Rio Olympics on sixth and seventh spots, respectively.

Pokemon Go, Pathankot attacks and the iPhone 7 launch claimed the last three spots on the list.

"Facebook in India has 166 million monthly active users (MAU) and 159 million mobile MAU. It also has 85 million daily active users (DAU) and 81 million mobile DAU," the social media site said in a statement.

Among the top global moments on Facebook, the US presidential election emerged No. 1.

While Brazilian politics with the corruption scandal leading to the impeachment of President Dilma Rouseff claimed the second spot, popular augmented reality game Pokemon Go and Black Lives Matter -- international activist movement for the rights of the Blacks -- were placed at the third and fourth spots, respectively.

Marine Drive in Mumbai emerged as the most Instagrammed location of 2016 from India, followed by Taj Mahal in Agra and Hauz Khas Village in New Delhi at second and third spots.

Facebook's "Year in Review" top 10 lists were measured by how frequently a topic was mentioned in Facebook posts made between January 1 and November 27, 2016.
