The flood situation in Assam has "marginally" improved as there were reports of flood waters receding from few flood-affected areas.

"The flood situation in the state has marginally improved with the recession of water from Gogamukh revenue circle and parts of Jonai and Sisiborgaon revenue circle of Dhemaji district and Sidli revenue cirlce of Chirang district. However, fresh areas have been inundated in Jorhat (Teok and Majuli revenue circles) and Sibsagar revenue circles," sources from Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) informed. The inundation of fresh areas in Jorhat and Sibsagar districts has not much affected human population yet, but just croplands.

As on today, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Jorhat and Sibsagar districts are still affected by floods. Earlier, six more districts, Golaghat, Kamrup, Karimganj, Morigaon, Nogaon and Tinsukia too came under the grip of floods. As on today, around 30,000 people are battling against floods in Assam.  Around 114 villages of 8 revenue circles are presently bearing the fury of floods. Five relief camps in Dhemaji district are operational with 1,011 camp inmates. This wave of flood, which has been continuing since May 13, has till now affected around 77,000 people and 6,400 hectares of cropland. Though there have been reports of damage of property and infrastructure due to floods, no loss of human life has yet been reported from any part of the state.

River Brahmaputra, Buridehing and Jia Bharali were flowing above danger level in at least four places as on July 12.

The revenue circles affected are Dhemaji, Jonai, Sissiborgaon under Dhemaji district, Sidli and Bijni under Chirang district, Teok and Majuli under Jorhat district, Bihpuira under Lakhimpur district and Sibsagar under Sibsagar district. A total of 72 villages and 9,366 people have been affected in Dhemaji district, 9 villages and 3,900 people have been affected in Chirang district, 6 villages and 5,099 people have been affected in Lakhimpur district. But in the 21 villages of Jorhat district and 6 villages of Sibsagar district only cropland have been submerged but affecting no population.
