As around 38 million voters get ready to cast their votes on December 13 when 87 constituencies spread over 15 districts go for polls in Gujarat, campaigning for the first phase of Gujarat assembly elections comes to an end today evening.
Saurashtra and southern parts of the state would go for poll on Thursday to elect representatives from among 846 candidates including 46 women.
As Narendra Modi, vies for a third consecutive term at the chief minister's office, in his poll campaign he has consistently harped on one issue; the corruption-plagued Central government in New Delhi and targeted Congress leaders like Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.
This time around, Modi has used latest technology to connect to voters. The BJP leader spoke to people across several locations simultaneously through 3D technology. Yesterday evening he addressed people across 53 locations in Gujarat.
Modi first connected with people across four cities of Gujarat using 3D technology on November 18. This was followed by another address on November 29 across 26 places (covering 15 districts), and finally, the chief minister people across 52 places using the medium on December 4.
Opposition Congress has termed his style of campaigning as 'poll gimmick' and has also raised a complaint with the state election commission alleging gross violation of election code.
On its part, Congress had its senior leaders from Delhi, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi campaigning in Gujarat. Addressing a rally in Vansada, Singh on Sunday appealed to voters to get rid of politicians indulging in divisive politics. UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi addressed people of 10 assembly constituencies of North Gujarat on Monday. She took on BJP for its 'anti-public' policies and large-scale corruption.
Gujarat will go to the polls in two phases on December 13 and 17. The counting of votes will take place on December 20.
