High alert in Maharashtra Gujarat after Hyderabad blasts

Security forces have been increased at all public places including bus depots, railway stations & airports

Following the serial blasts in Hyderabad, the Gujarat government has issued a high alert in the state.

Director General of Police Chitranjan Singh said, "All police commissioners and superintendents of police at the district levels have been alerted and they would be carrying out the necessary action."

Security forces have been increased at all public places including the bus depots, railway stations and airports. Even at malls and cinema theaters checking has been initiated as a precautionary measure.

Singh further said that the state intelligence department have been put into action and gather any information related to the Hyderabad blast.

Likewise, high alert has been sounded across Maharashtra in the wake of the blasts in Hyderabad this evening, state Home Minister R R Patil said.

"I have spoken to senior police officials and directed them to beef up security," Patil said.

The Home Minister reviewed the security situation in the state this evening, official sources said.

In July 2008, similar serial blasts had taken place killing 57 persons and injuring hundreds of others. The city crime branch had cracked the case and found that terror outfit Indian Mujahideen was behind the blast. As many as 69 accused are presently in Sabarmati central jail in Ahmedabad and are undergoing trial inside the prison.

A group of 14 blast accused had recently made an unsuccessful attempt to escape form prison by digging a tunnel behind their barracks. An investigation is on in this regard.
