FIR for vandalism at JNU server room: Owaisi slams police

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday condemned the registration of an FIR by Delhi police against "the girl who was injured in the violence" at the Jawaharlal Nehru University instead of booking those who made an attempt to 'kill' her.

 

"...they made an attempt to kill that union president.

 

First thing is that inquiry should look into how did the police allow them. Secondly, what did the vice-chancellor do.

 

Thirdly, even the police allowed safe passage for goonda elements," he told reporters here.

 

He was referring to the violence targeting students on Sunday and the police filing two FIRs in connection with vandalism at the server room at the university.

 

Delhi police said the FIRs were registered in connection with vandalism at the server room at the JNU on a complaint from the university administration on January 5.

NE students' body terms violence at JNU as 'barbaric'; demands security for students

North East Students' Organisation (NESO) on Tuesday termed the recent violence at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) as "barbaric" and alleged that the central government has failed to protect the innocent students of the premier institute.

 

Advisor, NESO Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah must take immediate steps to book those involved in the violence at JNU on Sunday.

 

"It was a barbaric attack on the innocent students at JNU and we strongly condemn it. Such violence at an academic institution is unacceptable," he said at a press conference here.

Maharashtra minister Jayant Patil and former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis engaged in a Twitter spat over a 'Free Kashmir' poster during protest at the Gateway of India here against the JNU violence.

 

A poster with the message "Free Kashmir" was carried by one of the protesters at the Gateway of India on Monday.

 

Tagged a picture of the poster on his Twitter account, Fadnavis asked what exactly was the protest for and if Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will tolerate this "anti-India campaign" right under his nose.

 

"Protest is for what exactly? Why slogans of "Free Kashmir"? How can we tolerate such separatist elements in Mumbai? 'Free Kashmir' slogans by Azadi gang at 2km from CMO? Uddhavji are you going to tolerate this free Kashmir anti India campaign right under your nose???" Fadnavis asked.

Osmania University students hold protest against JNU violence

Scores of students of Hyderabad's Osmania University on Monday night burnt effigy of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) to mark their protest against the attack on students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University.

 

Showing solidarity with the students of JNU, the protesters were holding placards and sloganeering against the ABVP.

Two day after attack, JNU Professor Sucharita Sen files complaint

JNU Professor Sucharita Sen, who suffered head injuries during an attack on students and teachers in the university campus on Sunday, has filed a police complaint.

 

Sen said outsiders had gathered at the university campus with sticks, rods, and deadly weapons.

 

She said she was first hit with a large stone on her shoulder and then with even a larger one on her head, following which she fell on the ground bleeding profusely

Masked men involved in JNU attack will be exposed soon: Javadekar

Union minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday said "masked" men involved in the JNU attack will be exposed soon as the Home ministry has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

 

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event, the Information and Broadcasting Minister said misunderstanding are deliberately being spread in JNU and others parts of the country to incite violence.

 

"I feel that Home minister has ordered an enquiry and the masked men involved in the JNU attack will soon be unmasked.

 

"Also, misunderstandings are deliberately being spread in JNU and in others parts of the country to incite violence, which will also be exposed," he said.

 

Union Home minister Amit Shah on Sunday ordered an inquiry to be carried out by a Joint CP level officer and asked for a report to be submitted as soon as possible.

Protesters call off stir after eviction from Gateway of India

Protest against the JNU violence was called off here on Tuesday after the demonstrators were shifted from the Gateway of India to Azad Maidan, police said.

 

In the morning, several protesters, including students and women, were taken in police vans from the iconic Gateway of India in south Mumbai as roads were getting blocked and people, including tourists, were facing problems, a police official said.

 

Police had appealed to protesters to shift but when they didn't listen, they were "relocated" to Azad Maidan near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Sangramsingh Nishandar said.

 

"After the protesters were relocated, they called off their demonstration," he said.

Sitaram Yechury blames ABVP for the violence alleging that the attacks were "planned" by those in power.

"Modi's silence speaks loudest. A PM who cannot summon his voice when students a few kilometres away from his residence are beaten up is either complicit or incompetent.

Nagpur University students condemn JNU violence

Students of the Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University staged a protest today against the attack JNU students and teachers.

 

The protesters, under the aegis of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Vidyarthi Sanghatna, a local body of students, gathered outside the university's front gate here in Maharashtra and shouted slogans condemning the JNU violence.

 

"The violence at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi should not be given a political colour, like Left or right wing angle, but a fair probe should be conducted into it," the student body's president, Bhushan Waghmare said.

Malayalam Actors condemn attack on JNU students

The Malayalam Film industry has condemned the attack on students at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), saying it was a "criminal offence" and deserves harshest punishment.

 

In a Facebook Post, Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran said entering an institution of knowlege and education and unleasing violence on students with scant regard for law and order, was an absolute murder of all democratic values.

 

"Regardless of what ideology you stand for, what cause youre fighting for, what end to this means you might be hoping for, violence and vandalism is not and never will be the answer to anything."

Two FIRs lodged for vandalism at JNU server room

The Delhi Police has registered two FIRs in connection with vandalism at the server room at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, police said on Tuesday.

 

The FIRs were registered on the complaint of JNU administration on January 5, they said.

 

The JNU administration had given the names of students union office bearers including its president Aishe Gosh in connection with the vandalism but police have not put her name or that of other students in the accused column of the FIRs.

 

One compliant was lodged on January 3 for switching off the server while another complaint was registered on January 4 for vandalising the server room, police said.

Shiv Sena slams Modi-Shah, says such 'brutal politics' never seen before

Comparing the attack on Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students to the 26/11 Mumbai terror strikes, the Shiv Sena said "divisive politics" was dangerous for the country.

 

It said the Union Home Ministry's decision to file cases against "unknown" attackers at JNU was laughable. "Those who entered JNU with masks are not unknown," it claimed.

 

"The fallout of JNU attack is being seen elsewhere in the country...what Modi and Shah want is happening. The country is in danger. Divisive politics is dangerous for the country," the Uddhav Thackeray-led party said.

 

Terrorists who attacked Mumbai on November 26, 2008 were also masked and the same was seen at JNU. Such elements need to be exposed, it said.

 

"Allowing blood stains in universities, colleges and beating up of students and indulging in politics over the burning situation...such brutal politics was never seen before," the Marathi publication said while terming the attack on JNU students as a "blot" on the law and order situation.

 

Lashing out at Amit Shah, the Sena said he his in Delhi and busy distributing official pamphlets door-to-door to promote the Citizenship Amendment Act.

 

There is "confusion and unrest" in the country over the new citizenship law, it pointed out.
