 "Kerala to file review plea on Mullaperiyar")
Kerala will be filing a review petition in the Supreme Court in the Mullaperiyar case at end of this month.
The petition would seek re-consideration of the apex court’s judgement rejecting the state’s contention in the long drawn dispute with neighbouring Tamil Nadu that the 119-year-old dam is unsafe.
This was disclosed by state Water Resources Minister PJ Joseph while replying to queries at a press meet here.
An all party meet had already authorised chief minister Oommen Chandy to explore legal options in the case after the apex court on May 7 upheld Tamil Nadu’s plea for raising the water level of the reservoir to 142 feet from 136 feet.
The court had also struck down a law promulgated by Kerala declaring the dam as endangered.
The ruling Congress-led UDF as well the CPI(M)-led LDF Opposition in state are of the view that the safety concerns of the nearly four million people in the five downstream districts had not been taken into account by the court.

“Yes, we will be filing the review petition by June 30 after due consultation with lawyers,” the minister said.
