RCCI is now drafting new rules and regulations for the federation. The federation was formed in 1976 but has been inactive over the last three decades. Samir Shah, president of RCCI and the new president of the federation, said, "Since last two years, we are trying to bring all the trade bodies under one roof. Finally, we have done this and this will benefit small traders and industries."
A board meeting was convened in Rajkot recently to restructure the federation in which members suggested names for the federation and subsequently, 'Federation of Saurashtra- Kutch Chamber of Commerce and Industry' was finalised.
The meeting saw participation of trade and industry associations from Jamnagar, Junagadh, Porbandar, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Morbi, among others. Shah stated that it was increasingly becoming important to fight problems at government level or on economy front unitedly. He said Saurashtra region has been ignored in every way from the beginning and coming together will surely strengthen their identity.
"Our aim is to provide support to each other to solve each other's problems and assist in new developments," Shah said. Presently, district level industrial associations and trade bodies have joined the federation who will be followed by village and taluka level trade bodies. The Federation of Saurashtra-Kutch Chamber of Commerce and Industry will aim to increase the individual and group membership to strengthen the federation.
