Cong slams ED over summons to Kharge, urges presiding officers to intervene

The Congress on Monday termed the Enforcement Directorate summons to Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge as an "outright affront" to Parliament and MPs, and said it is high time that presiding officers of both Houses ensure that it does not recur.

 

The Enforcement Directorate had on Thursday last asked Kharge to appear before it in connection with a money laundering case linked to the National Herald newspaper.

 

In a statement, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh charged that the ED summons to Kharge when Parliament session was on was done with the sole purpose of harassing the Leader of Opposition (LOP) and the Congress.

India logs 16,167 new Covid cases, 41 deaths

India on Monday registered 16,167 new Covid cases to take its tally to 44,161,899. With 41 new deaths, including 15 reconciled by Kerala, India's toll due to the coronavirus pandemic has now reached 526,730. With 15,549 recoveries in the past 24 hours, India's tally of cured Covid cases has now reached 43,499,659. Three died, several injured at Khatu Shyamji Temple in Sikar where a stampede occurred during a monthly fair, earlier this morning.
PM Modi said, "Saddened by the loss of lives due to a stampede at the Khatu Shyamji Temple complex in Sikar, Rajasthan. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I pray that those who are injured recover at the earliest."
