Over 20,900 children in Delhi receive Covid vaccine doses on 1st day

Over 20,900 children of Delhi in the age of 15 to 18 years received Covid vaccine doses on the first day of the inoculation drive of this group of beneficiaries.

In the northeast district, the highest 3,687 children were vaccinated. In the Central district, the least 739 children received the vaccine shots till 6 pm.

As many as 2,667 beneficiaries in the age group of 15 to 18 years in the Southwest district received the shots, 2,268 in the east district and 2,034 in New Delhi.

South Korea records 1st omicron variant death

South Korea says it has confirmed its first death related to the new omicron variant.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency said on Monday that the deceased was in their 90s and living at a nursing home in the southern city of Gwangju. It says the person received a second dose of COVID-19 vaccine in October.

Maharashtra records 12,160 new Covid-19 cases, 11 deaths

Maharashtra reported 12,160 fresh coronavirus cases on Monday, 283 more than the previous day, and 11 new deaths, while the active tally crossed the 50,000-mark, the state health department said.
 

With these additions, the state's COVID-19 tally rose to 67,12,028, while the death toll increased to 1,41,553, it said. The state recorded 68 fresh cases of the new coronavirus variant Omicron in the last 24 hours, taking the tally of such infections to 578, the department said.

Jammu and Kashmir records 176 fresh Covid cases

Jammu and Kashmir recorded 176 fresh cases of coronavirus on Monday, taking the infection tally to 3,41,802 while no new death due to the virus was reported from the Union Territory in the past 24 hours.

Out of the fresh cases, 70 were from the Jammu division and 108 from the Kashmir division.

Srinagar district recorded a maximum of 57 cases followed by 46 cases in Jammu district.

Himachal Pradesh reports one Covid-19 death, 137 fresh cases

Himachal Pradesh recorded 137 COVID-19 cases and one fatality due to the disease on Monday, taking the state's infection tally to 2,29,153 and its death toll to 3,862, an official said.

The fresh death was reported from Hamirpur, he added.

NEET-PG admissions: Centre seeks urgent hearing of EWS quota case

The Centre requested the Supreme Court on Monday to schedule a hearing in a matter related to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota in connection with the NEET-PG admissions on Tuesday, citing "some urgency".

 

A bench of justices DY Chandrachud and AS Bopanna told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who mentioned the matter before the court on behalf of the Centre, that the EWS quota matter is being heard by a three-judge bench of the top court.

Rupee starts 2022 on muted note, falls 14 paise to 74.43 against US Dollar

The rupee started the year 2022 on a muted note as it slipped 14 paise to 74.43 against the US dollar in opening trade on Monday, tracking weak macroeconomic data.

 

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened weak at 74.35, then fell further to 74.43 against the greenback, registering a decline of 14 paise from the last close. The local unit also touched an early high of 74.31 against the greenback in initial deals.

No need to panic, Omicron mild, says UP CM Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath on Monday said that the Omicron variant of coronavirus is mild. However, he added that its necessary to remain alert in view of any disease, but there's no need to panic. He added, "virus ab kamzor pad chuka hai (the virus has weakened now)."
