Ramachandriah, who hails from Kadapa district, made this plea after chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy approved a decision to take back over 10,000 acres of land given to a 10-million tonne steel plant proposed to be set up by former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy when YS Rajasekhar Reddy was the chief minister.
In letter written to the chief minister, Ramachandraiah suggested that the iron ore mining leases granted to Janardhan Reddy's Obulapuram Mining Company Limited along with the land and other clearances given for the steel project be taken over by the government in favour of the RINL.
"Despite the fact that BIL (Bramhani Industries Limited) promoted by Janardhan Reddy is involved in various controversies, the project has to be implemented in the best interests of the backward region of Rayalaseema and Kadapa district in particular," he said.
