Prime Minister Narendra Modi, like last year, will not attend an Iftar party being hosted by President Pranab Mukherjee here on Wednesday. At the time of the Iftar party, Modi will be meeting chief ministers of north eastern states.

"The Prime Minister will chair a meeting with chief ministers from the north eastern states, including Sikkim, at 1900 hrs tomorrow," a statement from the Prime Minister's Office said.

"Important development projects related to these states and the entire north-eastern region are likely to figure in this meeting," it added.

Earlier in the day, he will chair the second meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog at 7, Race Course Road, his official residence. Last year too, Modi had not attended the Iftar party hosted by the President.
