Mysore Palace revenue doubles in five years

There has been marginal increase in number of foreign tourists by about 2,000, from 70,037 in 2009-10 to 72,483 last year

A comparison of five years' figures of tourists visiting India's most-visited place, the Mysore Palace, reveals that while its revenues have doubled, the number of visitors has increased only by about one-sixth.

During 2009-10 financial year, it saw over 2.76 million visitors, fetching revenues of ~6.50 crore. On the other hand, the number of visitors during 2013-14 was under 3.25 million, but the revenue saw a quantum jump to ~12.65 crore.

There has been a marginal increase in the number of foreign tourists by about 2,000, from 70,037 in 2009-10 to 72,483 last year. In fact, the number of foreign visitors has seen a fall.

During 2010-11, their number was 80,803, while in 2011-12 it stood at 75,206 and during 2012-13 it was 80,835 against 72,483 last year. In 2009-10, the number of foreigners' footfall was 70,037.

The total number of visitors to the palace during the five years is as follows: 2009-10: 2.76 million, 2010-11: 3.23 million, 2011-12: 3.52 million, 2012-13: 3.3 million and 2013-14: 3.24 million. The revenue for the respective five years was: ~6.5 crore; ~7.24 crore; ~7.67 crore; ~12.38 crore and ~12.65 crore, respectively.

The highest flow of visitors to the erstwhile royal residence was in the month of May. Generally, the examination month of March and the monsoon month of July witnessed a lower footfall.
