Karnataka election result: Horses stay put, BJP quits race

B S Yeddyurappa’s third chief ministerial stint lasted all of 55 hours, and his resignation on Saturday evening came as a shot in the arm for an Opposition struggling to mount a united challenge to the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The swearing-in of the H D Kumaraswamy-headed Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) coalition government on Wednesday is set to become a show of Opposition unity with several chief ministers likely to attend the event. Modi in Srinagar: Every stone picked by misguided youth hurts Kashmir

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday appealed to "misguided youngsters" to shun the path of violence and join the national mainstream, saying every stone or weapon picked by them led Jammu and Kashmir to the path of instability.

Speaking for the first time after the government announced an halt to anti-militancy operations in the state during the holy month of Ramzan, the prime minister said there is no alternative to peace and stability. Read more here

India drags US to WTO over hefty tariff hike in steel, aluminium

India has dragged the US to the World Trade Organisation's dispute settlement mechanism over the imposition of import duties on steel and aluminium, an official said.

India has stated that the decision will impact exports of these products to the US and it is not in compliance with global trade norms. Read more here
