North, east India to witness good rainfall next week: IMD

Several parts of north and east India will receive good rainfall for the next one week, while the central and western parts are expected to witness “subdued” rain activity in the coming fortnight, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday.

“A near normal rainfall activity is also expected over peninsular India till July 30. Above normal rainfall activity likely over Western Himalayan Region and Indo-Gangetic plains till July 20 and over northeastern states till July 30,” said IMD.

Adding, “Near normal rainfall activity likely over Peninsular India till July 30. Subdued rainfall activity likely over central and West India from July 16 to 30.”

A monsoon trough is active and likely to shift northwards close to foothills of Himalaya gradually during the next two days, it said.

IMD Director-General Laxman Singh Rathore said this will bring good amount of rainfall in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, West Bengal for the next one week.

Central India, which has until now has witnessed a good amount of rainfall and has recorded precipitation of over 25 per cent than its normal limit, is going to witness a lull for the next fortnight.
