The National Skill Development Corporation would train about five crore educated unemployed youths in the country during the 12th Five Year Plan period, its chief S Ramadorai said today.

"Our target in the current 12th Plan period would be to train about five crore youths and the target for the current financial year 2013-14 is about 85 lakh," Ramadorai, who is also the Advisor to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in National Council on Skill Development, told reporters here.

The NSDC chief said the target of 85 lakh youths has been broken up by the youth population in each state corresponding with its total population.

Speaking on issues and concerns that the corporation is facing at the moment, Ramadorai said, "One of our major concerns is the implementation on the ground."

He said, "You may have a great strategy and may have a great need, but unless it is implemented on the ground, the impact would be less than expected and my worries have always been implementation."

"We have to have people who are trained specifically on how to make implementation of our initiatives on the ground where our programmes have an impact on the targeted groups," the NSDC chief said.

He was here on a two-day visit to Meghalaya and a half day visit to Assam to assess the skill development initiatives taken by these two north-eastern states.
