Nursery admissions: SC lifts stay on Delhi HC's ruling

It also struck down notification which scrapped the inter-state transfer category for nursery admission

The Supreme Court on Wednesday lifted its stay order on nursery admission in Delhi.

The apex court also struck down the Delhi Government's February 27 notification which scrapped the inter-state transfer category for nursery admission, and has asked the government to raise the number of seats so as to accommodate children whose parents had approached the court.

The apex court had stayed the Delhi High Court's ruling on nursery admissions in city schools on April 11 after a petition of parents had challenged it, arguing that children who have shifted from a different state to Delhi will not get any quota.

The Supreme Court had also issued a notice to the Delhi Government.

The Delhi High Court had in an order asked the government to process nursery admissions as per the February 27 notification of the Lt. Governor. It said that the controversy over five points for inter-state transfers will be decided later and hence schools had to make admissions on the basis of the 70 point criteria.
