Aamir Khan’s PK is slowly and steadily inching towards becoming the highest revenue collector at the box office ever. The film, released on December 19, 2014, started this year with Rs 14 crore in collections on Thursday. It’s total collection in India since release now stands at Rs 278 crore.

With another free weekend to go, trade analysts are optimistic that the film will cross the Rs 300 crore mark by Sunday. It would have by then also become the highest grossing movie from Bollywood ever, since the current record stands at Rs 284 crore. It would be a case of Aamir beating his own record since the highest collecting movie till date is Dhoom 3 (December 2013).

PK, directed by Rajkumar Hirani is a satirical take on the religious preachings of godmen in the country today and challenges some of these with the logic of someone absolutely unaccustomed to the concept of religion. It has stirred up controversies across the country on-ground and online. While political and religious outfits have been demanding a ban on the movie, there are those who have come out in support of the film as well.

Social media has been abuzz with the movie’s content and the debate around it as well. Twitter hashtags of PKDebate, BanPK and SupportPK were trending nationally in the time following the film’s release. The makers of the movie nd its stars however have maintained silence over the issue by and large.

PK has been co-produced by Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra in association with Disney’s UTV Motion Pictures. The film’s cost is estimated at Rs 100 crore and was released it 4000 screens pan India. Internationally, the film was released in 844 screens with wide releases in North America, UK, Australia, Middle East and Pakistan.

PK has collected Rs 130 crore (approx.) overseas, with record collections in North America, Middle East and Australia.
