If you are planning a vacation or a leisure trip, here is a good news! Pune ranks as the most budget-friendly city in India for a three-day break, followed by Jaipur.

New York is the world's most expensive city followed by Tokyo, London, Cancun and Paris for Indian travellers, while Hanoi is the least expensive city for a three-day break, according to a survey conducted by travel planning and booking site TripAdvisor.

The travel planning and booking site has announced the sixth edition of its annual TripIndex Cities, which compares the cost of a three-night break during the summer travel period of June to September in 27 key cities around the world.

Conducted by independent research firm TNS, TripIndex Cities also includes eight Indian cities -- New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune and Jaipur, taking into account typical in-destination costs for two people. These include a four-star hotel for three nights, a visit to three attractions, lunch each day, a taxi to and from dinner each day and dinner.

The study found that among the Indian cities, the average price for a short break is Rs 30,415 (excluding flights) with prices varying significantly from the least to the most expensive. Pune is the lowest cost destination at Rs 26,595, while Mumbai costs the most at Rs 38,444.

"TripIndex Cities is a great guide for travellers to help them plan and book a holiday within their budget, irrespective of whether they intend to travel internationally or within India. Our research of booking rates on TripAdvisor shows that it is possible to budget for a full trip to Pune for little more than the average cost of accommodation in Mumbai over the same dates. Such information helps travellers assess the various aspects of their trip before going ahead and making the final booking" said Nikhil Ganju, country manager, TripAdvisor India.

New York was the most expensive city internationally for a three-day break for Indians (Rs 1,24,201), over three times more costly than Mumbai, the most expensive city in India.

Tokyo, the most expensive city for eating out at Rs 40,587, is almost three times the cost of Hyderabad which is the costliest in India (Rs 13,668) and more than four times that of Chennai at Rs 9,414.
