Siddharth Varadarajan, Editor of The Hindu newspaper, on Monday publicly announced his resignation from the company, after nearly two years at the helm.

On Twitter, Varadarajan said that his decision to quit comes after the owners of The Hindu, Kasturi and Sons Ltd, decided to revert to a family owned business. The paper had in 2011 witnessed a family feud after N.Ram, the then Editor-in-chief had decided to bring more professionals into the paper.

“With The Hindu’s owners deciding to revert to being a family run and edited newspaper, I am resigning from The Hindu with immediate effect”. Varadarajan tweeted from his personal twitter handle, @svaradarajan.

In a board meeting held in 2011, KSL had voted in favour of appointing Varadarajan, an outsider as the editor for the first time in the newspaper's 135 year old history. The decision to appoint Varadarajan had in 2011 led to family feud with five directors of KSL quitting the company following the board meeting.

In September this year, The Hindu also forayed into the Tamil newspaper market, launching a Tamil edition.
