A day after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) lowered its 2015 southwest monsoon forecast to 88 per cent of the Long Period Average (LPA) from 93 per cent, private weather forecasting company Skymet said the overall monsoon would be normal this year. It would be weak in the sub-divisions of south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, east Madhya Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh. It said Madhya Pradesh was expected to be the worst impacted by low rain.

Skymet has maintained southwest monsoon in 2015 would be normal at 102 per cent of the LPA, with a model error of plus and minus four per cent, though IMD had lowered its forecast from 93 per cent of the LPA, which is classified as deficient rain.

Skymet said Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana would not be impacted by low rain as these areas have sufficient irrigation facilities.
