Suspected ISIS sympathiser gets NIA custody till June 23

Mohsin Sheikh was arrested from Delhi in February by the local police and the case was transferred to NIA

A special court remanded to NIA custody till June 23 of Mohsin Sheikh, who had left him his home in suburban Malwani, allegedly to join ISIS.

Sheikh and two others had gone missing in December last year after another youth Ayaz Sultan's disappearance in October. Sultan had reportedly reached Syria and joined ISIS.

Sheikh was arrested from Delhi in February by the local police and the case was transferred to NIA.

A case was registered in Mumbai NIA against Sheikh and the local court issued production warrant against him, after which he was brought from Delhi.

In the court, NIA said that Sheik was involved in instigating and influencing Muslim youths in suburban Malwani in Mumbai on the instructions of a Syria-based handler.

NIA also said that he provided logistical support to another accused Rizwan during his Mumbai visit, arranged accommodation and SIM card.

The remand application said that Moshin visited Hubli in Karnataka, Hyderabad and Chennai.

He also took two persons with intention to make them join jihadi organisations in India having affiliations to ISIS.

The court accepting the NIA's request remanded him to the agency custody for eight days.
