Why do you embarrass court with abusive words: judges to CBI

Transcript of the intercepted telephonic conversations among the railgate accused, including former Pawan Bansal's nephew Vijay Singla, contained numerous abusive words

The mention of "abusive" words in the transcripts of intercepted conversations of the accused in the cash-for-post railway bribery case today irked a court here which told the CBI that it should have "omitted" them wile submitting these documents before it.

The court told the CBI that transcript of the intercepted telephonic conversations among the accused, including former Union Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal's nephew Vijay Singla, contained numerous abusive words used by them and it was not "omitted" or "blurred" by the agency.

"Abuses in the conversations (transcripts) should be blurred or omitted. Why do you (CBI) want to embarrass the court?" Special CBI Judge Swarana Kanta Sharma said.

The lady judge also said that the abusive words mentioned in these transcripts ought to have been blurred or deleted by the CBI as it was difficult and embarrassing for it to read these conversations.

"I will have a problem when I will listen the CD of the conversations," the judge said.

The remark came while hearing the bail plea of one of the accused Ajay Garg when the judge was reading the transcripts of conversations of the accused to ascertain his role.

The court told CBI that it would give written directions to it to remove these words from the copies of the transcript supplied to it or the accused after getting no objections from the defence counsel.

It said that one copy of these transcripts can be kept in a sealed cover as part of the documents on record without blurring or omitting such words.

These transcripts are part of the charge sheet filed by the CBI before the court on July 2.

Bansal has been named as a prosecution witness in the case in which Singla, Garg, the then Member (Staff) of Railway Board Mahesh Kumar and seven others have been chargesheeted by the CBI for the offence of criminal conspiracy under the IPC and relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
